Judy and Colleen Viva Las Vegas

Colleen and I decided that a trip to Las Vegas was in order as I had never been before. She arranged for a two night stay at the  Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.

Mirage Hotel Las Vegas
The drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas takes just over five hours, all great highways. The vistas along the way are spectacular. Desert, mountains and buttes. Boulder City and the Hoover Dam are just before you get to Las Vegas. We didn't stop this time as we only had a day to do the Vegas thing, and by the time you take the day to drive there, and the day to get back to Phoenix - well, there goes your three days.

We arrived about 3 pm and got checked-in. The room was really nice, and lo and behold a soaker tub, which I was really missing since the home on the desert only has a shower.  After a soak and a cocktail we headed out for dinner. We met up with Colleen's friend Linda from White Rock and walked the strip checking out the lights and hotels, etc. This place is really over the top, as anyone knows whose been here before.

We then settled in for some serious gambling. After I was down my $20, I decided to hit the pit. I was bushed. Colleen, however, was into some serious winnings, so stayed up longer. She came to bed around midnight, after winning quite a lot of money (we aren't allowed to say how much).

We were up early the next morning, and had a great breakfast to give us energy for the 20,000 steps we would take that day. Colleen had her pedometer with her. So I know. Not only that, my feet were also letting me know.

We started out at Ross's Dress for Less, a huge three storey affair, only steps away from out hotel. We then headed for the fashion mall where we met up with Linda.

Wynn Hotel Lobby - Vegas
After gawking around for a few hours, we felt we should just check out the Wynn Hotel Lobby, and see what was what there. They were decked out for Christmas, and once again over the top. We also had a tour of the rooms, in case we want to stay there the next time. Amazing. We also did a little slots gambling, and wait a minute, I was up this time by about $30.  So, I said, we had to move on and get a little something to eat. We headed over to Caesars Palace, and ate at their deli. We ordered a smoked meat sandwich. We split it, and it's a good thing we did. It would feed five starving families...we did manage to get it down. We should have taken a picture, because I have never seen a sandwich so big.

The highlight of the trip was dinner at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel. We sat out on the patio overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard. We watched the water and light show from the Bellagio Hotel, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner of steak and frits. I highly recommend this, and also that you share. It is huge.

We did some more gambling after dinner, and sorry to say I was down $100 by the end of the night, and that was it for me.

Colleen, once again, thought she might get lucky, but to no avail. She came out ahead of the game by quitting when she did.

We headed home the next morning after a wonderful stay in Las Vegas, and looking forward to the next time. We are hoping to go again in March, and see Shania Twain.
